Extensions, Orangeries and Super-structures in Crewe

This project was completed in August last year in Crewe for Clearview. Heave protection was required as part of the foundation design due to ground conditions that presented a risk of upward movement.

Heave occurs when clay-based soils expand as moisture levels increase, often following tree removal or seasonal ground changes. If not accounted for, this expansion can exert upward pressure on foundations, potentially causing structural movement. To mitigate this risk, appropriate heave protection measures were incorporated into the foundation detail to allow for controlled ground movement without affecting the structure.

The works were carried out efficiently over a single day, including the installation of the piling system and placement of concrete in accordance with the structural engineer’s specification.

The project is a strong example of how potential ground movement can be properly managed through the correct foundation design and experienced site execution
